Creative

The distinction between creativity and humanity is, to my mind, a rather hazy one. I tend to feel that “artists” (in the broad sense of the word, which includes “writers”, “musicians”, and the like), are not people with a particular calling, per se, but rather people who lack any calling. The Artist’s vocation, I think, is simply to live.

To put it another way: The Artists’s job is simply to change the world.

This is really quite easy. It is, of course, exactly what we all do, every day. We were doing it even before we were born (just ask your mother whether your abdominal residence affected anything).

What has set widely acclaimed artists apart from the proverbial crowd, I believe, is merely the degree to which they have honed their awareness of these changes, and refined their control over them.

My personal journey into the realm of creative expression has included writing, computer programming, visual art, clothing, music, audio recording, and filmmaking.

  1. Hi Benji,

I feel fortunate to have witnessed what may be your final performance with Monroe Crossing. Quite a treat; love the way you all employ the one mike method! I admire your decision to strike out on your own and pursue your dreams; I did something similar a decade ago and it worked out well for me, as I know it will for you. Best of luck to you, and I will be sure to keep my eye out for your latest work.

    Best, Richard
