The Sounds of Music

(Click or tap to enlarge)

As of a few days ago, all sound files have been removed - replaced by sounds which are freshly synthesized each time the game starts up. I’ve taken the opportunity to enhance some of the sounds, re-balance the volume levels of others, and modify the logic for which sounds play and when. I think the overall effect is more musical than before.

A lot of time also went into some performance optimizations, which are not yet complete, but which will allow richer scenes to unfold in future, without introducing any unwanted frame stutter.

You’ll also notice a crude reticle, which was prototyped early this morning and left in because I found it helpful. In addition to providing a clearer reference for aiming, it supplies an indication of which cannon barrel will fire next.

I’ve got a lot of ideas for how to proceed next week. Much of it includes additional enhancements to sound and musicality. After that, I’ll probably shift gears and focus on upgrading the visuals a bit more, before I move back to core gameplay additions.
