Two small changes form the core of this week’s update. Firstly, the firing of your cannons now follows the Magic Space Rhythm which permeates the crystal fields. Secondly, the tempo of this rhythm now increases slightly with each wave of enemy attackers.
In order to ensure that the modified weapons still feel responsive, I made some adjustments to the targeting reticle, which required me to invent Dimmable Space LEDs for your ship. Consequently, the health/energy meters effectively have more resolution now, since the individual segments can dim themselves on or off.
I also made a variety of small changes to the way the various sounds mix and interact with one another.
Disappointingly, when I tested the Windows build in preparation for release, I found that the canons were not charging consistently (even though they perform correctly on 3 different Linux machines that I tried), and I won’t have time to fix the issue until next week. The effect is arguably somewhat musical, but also quite unpredictable and unintended. I’m making the new update available, regardless, and I’ll look forward to having more reliable cannons after the weekend. :)
