As of this release, the game offers two modes of play.

In challenge mode, the game is essentially identical to the previous release, but with one small wave of enemies spawning immediately, and the final wave being slightly bigger than before. In future releases, this mode will allow you to upgrade your weapons, engines, and other capabilities between waves.

In chill mode, by contrast, no enemies will spawn - ever. This mode will also encourage and reward a higher degree of exploration, with upgrades and changes of scenery dynamically turning up, for your comfort and convenience.

A lot happened under the hood, of course, and Thanksgiving also happened - which is why this is a Saturday update. See you next week!
